2017 Professional Development Event

Members of AFCA-BC attending the 2017 Professional Development Event

October 21, 2017

On October 21st AFCA hosted its annual PD on cyber security and Organizational governance at the Holiday Inn. The event was facilitated by speakers from Grant Thornton and CPABC.

The morning kicked off with Leon Ang speaking on cyber security. The session made the attendees aware of the threat of cyber threats and the different ways they can be attacked. Luckily, Leon also gave some tips on how to protect ourselves from these threats namely, arming the "human firewall."

During the intermission, Sharon Hummel from CPABC presented some information for skilled immigrants who have their designation from back home, but would like to get Canadian Certification.

The second session, Cheryl Lingal and Alex Lau spoke about organizational governance. Specifically, they outlined and described the COSO framework for internal controls to manage risk, deter fraud, and improve organizational performance. More importantly, the ethical mindset required with those in charge of organizational governance.

We'd like to thank all our speakers from from Grant Thornton and our sponsors and supporters ISSofBC and CPABC and for all the attendees who made it out to the event.
