On January 14th, 2017 AFCA hosted its 9th Annual AGM at Creekside Community Center.

The evening was attended by over 40 AFCA members, friends and family. Members got the chance to catch up with each other accompanied by food prepared by Marietta and tons of door prizes. The AGM was an opportunity to recognize the successes and events during the 2016 year. As well, as acknowledging and thanking all the people who made it all possible: the members.

During the evening we were also introduced to the new 2017 AFCA council members, the new AFCA members for 2016, and our newly minted CPA's. We are confident that all will represent AFCA to the fullest as leaders both in the community and in the professional world. AFCA has much to look forward to in the coming year.

We would like to thank the 2016 AFCA council members for hosting the evening and for all their hard work throughout the year. They have served the organization well in keeping its spirit alive and representing its core values of excellence, leadership, professionalism, respect, and teamwork.

On May 28, 2016, AFCA hosted its first Cafe AFCA featuring guest speaker Greg Powell from SunLife financial to speak on the importance of goals and how to achieve them.

The morning started off with some networking. That day we were joined by some of our new members: Jumel Gonzales and Grace & Rey Billones. As well we had many new and old faces present. All were made to feel welcome in the AFCA family.

The talk by Greg was well received with enthusiasm. Using his own personal experiences as example. He starts by identifying different areas that drive and motivate individuals including Social contribution; business & career; health & fitness, etc. These areas form the basis of people's goals. Then he moves on to describe an action plan and creating timelines ranging from a 3+ year vision to weekly tasks. Some of the main takeaways from his talk: Be passionate about something; it's okay to want more; and it okay to fail once in a while. Most importantly, impress yourself! Greg's short talk was enough to inspire and motivate the individuals in the room.

At the end, we were all challenged to start identifying what motivates us and start setting out goals.

This Cafe AFCA is the first of AFCA's initiative to really focus on providing its members with access to soft-skills workshop and give them the tools to succeed in all facets of their life.
